Dr Ursula Read

Investigator

Ursula Read has a PhD in anthropology from University College London and is Senior Research Fellow at the University of Warwick. Her research uses ethnographic, qualitative, participatory and arts-based methods to explore lived experiences of mental illness and care within community settings, traditional and faith-based healing facilities and mental health services. She has particular interest in strengthening the involvement of communities in mental health care, advocacy and activism and the use of arts-based approaches for community engagement and dialogue. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in Ghana, focusing on the impact of serious mental illness on family life and livelihoods, the involvement of traditional and faith healers in mental health, moral and ethical dilemmas around care and consent and the expansion of community-based mental health care.
