Doi: 10.1017/S2045796025000186.

We are delighted that the HOPE overview paper has been published. In this paper we present the aims and methods for the first phase of HOPE, when we are seeking to:

  • understand the experiences and preferences of people who are homeless and have severe mental illness

  • understand contextual strengths, opportunities and constraints to intervention

  • quantify the burden of mental illness and unmet needs in homeless populations in Ethiopia, Ghana and Kenya

In this paper we highlight the key contributions of experts by experience and policy makers to HOPE, and consider some of the ethical challenges we face in carrying out this work.
